MLB Opening Day 2022 is here, and as is usually the case, weather is going to be a major factor early in the season. MLB daily Fantasy players will have to take the conditions into account as they create their MLB DFS lineups. There will be some gusty winds blowing straight out in Cubs vs. Brewers, Royals vs. Guardians and Cardinals vs. Pirates on Thursday, but temperatures are expected to be in the 40s in all three stadiums, which could nullify the wind considerably. So should you be loading up on sluggers in those lineups or looking elsewhere in the MLB DFS player pool?

Playing batter vs. pitcher matchups is also critical to creating the best MLB DFS roster and Padres OF Wil Myers has an extensive history against Diamondbacks Opening Day starter Madison Bumgarner. Myers has a .975 OPS with six home runs in 68 career plate appearances against Bumgarner and could be a sneaky-good addition to your MLB daily Fantasy lineups. McClure’s top MLB DFS picks for Opening Day

One of McClure’s top MLB DFS picks for MLB Opening Day is Royals SS/3B Bobby Witt Jr. at $2,300 on DraftKings and $2,400 on FanDuel. The son of 16-year MLB veteran Bobby Witt Sr., the younger Witt was the No. 2 overall pick in the 2019 MLB Draft and he was able to overcome a slow start as a professional in 2019 and a canceled season in 2020 to cement his status as a top prospect last season in double-A and triple-A.

Across the two levels, Witt hit 33 home runs, drove in 97 runs and stole 29 bases while slashing .290/.361/.576. Now he enters the 2022 season as one of the league’s top prospects, and he was named the Opening Day starter at third base after an incredible spring. Witt posted a 1.223 OPS with three home runs, eight RBIs and two steals over 34 plate appearances this spring and his combination of power and speed make him a high-upside play for Thursday MLB DFS.

Another player McClure likes for Thursday’s season opener is Angels outfielder Mike Trout at $6,200 on DraftKings and $4,200 on FanDuel. Limited to just 36 games due to injuries last year, Trout’s streak of nine straight top-five MVP finishes came to an end. But when he did play, his bat was as potent as ever with a slash line of .333/.466/.624. It was a limited sample size of 146 plate appearances, but his average, on-base percentage and OPS (1.090) would all have set new career-highs for Trout had he maintained those numbers over a full season.

The outfielder missed a couple of games at the end of Spring Training due to an illness, but Angels manager Joe Maddon said he’s optimistic he will suit up against the Astros on Thursday. You would understand Maddon’s optimism as not only is Trout the best player in the game, but he has a knack for showing out on Opening Day. He’s reached base safely eight times over his last three games on Opening Day as fans are expecting a show and he’s delivering. He also slugged two homers last year versus Houston and that was the most homers he had vs. any team in 2021.

How to set your MLB DFS lineups for April 7, 2022
