The special meeting saw over 98% of the shares accept the purchase, which is expected to close on June 30, 2023

Today Call of Duty maker, Activision Blizzard, announced that its stockholders have agreed to Microsoft’s proposal to purchase the publisher.

The transaction is expected to close during Microsoft’s fiscal year ending in June 30, 2023.

During the special meeting held today, more than 98% of the shares were in favor of the acquisition deal.

“Today’s overwhelmingly supportive vote by our stockholders confirms our shared belief that, combined with Microsoft, we will be even better positioned to create great value for our players, even greater opportunities for our employees, and to continue our focus on becoming an inspiring example of a welcoming, respectful, and inclusive workplace,” said Activision Blizzard CEO Bobby Kotick.

The acquisition deal has also received some skepticism from certain groups since its announcement.

In March, a group of organizations released a letter asking the Federal Trade Commission to closely monitor Microsoft’s purchase of Activision Blizzard.

Whereas US senators also urged the agency to look further into the purchase proposal.

Earlier in April, the SOC Investment Group penned a letter asking the company’s shareholders to vote against Microsoft’s purchase of the Call of Duty maker.
