It’s been nearly two years since Square Enix revealed Final Fantasy XVI and about a year since we’ve last heard anything regarding the project. Who would have guessed that the next update would be from a magazine found at Uniqlo, that we’d learn the game is near completion.

Naoki “Yoshi P” Yoshida wrote something about Final Fantasy XVI in Uniqlo’s UT magazine. Twitter user alberich_ff14 posted the excerpt which is translated below:
“Currently, development on the latest title, Final Fantasy XVI, is in the final stretch. As a single-player game, Final Fantasy XVI aims to unify the story and gameplay experience. Unlike online games, which portray multiple players at once, Final Fantasy XVI has an individual focus, which makes the story more immersive. And I think the story has become quite deep. My hope is that the adults who have grown up, understand the rules of society, and drifted away from Final Fantasy thinking ‘the real world isn’t as easy as a video game’ can remember the enthusiasm they had back then. That’s what we’re keeping in mind as we make this game.”
It comes as a surprise to most that Square Enix is working away on a project and it hasn’t been delayed (again at least). The Final Fantasy series usually has a long development period, one that can be excruciating to wait though as it takes upwards of 10 years to see the final product.
