5 best mobile games like Civilization

Forge of Empires: Build a City

Developed and published by InnoGames, Forge of Empires: Build a City is a popular strategy game released in 2012 on the web browser. It later came to iOS in 2014 and Android in 2015. Even though it’s one of the oldest mobile games on the list, the developer’s regular updates have kept the game fresh and entertaining.

In Forge of Empires, you have to expand and develop a city, evolving from the Stone Age to the colonization of Jupiter Moon. You also have to build and manage an army with different types of battle units and plunder your enemy’s cities for resources. On your journey to the modern-day and beyond, you get to research technologies and unlock new buildings and decorations.

Forge of Empires is free-to-play. You can get it from Google Play or the App Store.

If you enjoy games like Age of Empires and Tropico, you will love Townsmen. It’s a classic city-building strategy game. You build the city of your dream, fulfil the needs of your citizens and master great challenges. Of course, you will also have to deal with raging disasters and protect your town against bandits.

Tribal Wars 2

Tribal Wars 2 is the sequel to the popular real-time strategy game Tribal Wars. Like the prequel in Tribal Wars 2, you must build and expand your empire, make friends with other players to form mighty tribes, and protect your people against enemies. It features 16 different types of buildings and 13 types of units. What’s best is that you can also trade resources with other players in real time.

It’s another game on the list developed and published by InnoGames. It’s available on browser and mobile. You can use the same account to play across devices.

Tribal Wars 2 is a free-to-play title. You can download it from Google Play or the App Store.

World of Empires 2

World of Empires 2 is very much like Civilization. They are graphically very similar and even the map is built using hexagonal tiles. It has been developed and published by Bruno Fargnoli and features many civilizations, troops, buildings and technologies to research. It also has procedural world generation and a map editor.

As in all the Civilization games, in World of Empires 2, you can win by battle, diplomacy or by becoming the most powerful economic force. It’s a simple strategy game that is easy to learn. It’s one of the best alternatives to Civilization if you want to go more casual.

The Battle of Polytopia

Last on the list, we have The Battle of Polytopia. It’s a turn-based strategy game developed and published by Midjiwan AB. If I were to pick my favourite on this list, it would be The Battle of Polytopia.

In The Battle of Polytopia, you get to choose one of 12 distinct civilizations and lead them towards victory by expanding your empire, researching technologies and becoming the most powerful economy in the world. It features both single-player and multiplayer game modes, supporting up to 15 players.

The Battle of Polytopia was released initially in February 2016 on iOS. Later in the same year, it expanded to Android. A fun fact, it’s also available to play in Tesla cars.
